Mowing is often considered a no-brainer chore. However, the truth is that proper mowing is a key element to the health of your lawn. Lawns that are properly mowed are healthier lawns, and as such are more durable.
The mowing height for your lawn depends on the type of grass that makes up your yard. A general rule when mowing is to cut off no more than one third of the grass blade. During the growing season this equates to mowing the grass approximately once a week.
Allowing grass to grow tall and then cutting off a majority of the grass blade is known as scalping. Scalping the lawn damages the grass blades and causes dull coloring. Frequent mowing is the best solution to this problem.
Proper mowing techniques and well-maintained lawn equipment promotes a greener, thicker, and healthier lawn.
